Pierce Ranch Vineyards is a small, family-owned operation perched in a highland valley at the southernmost tip of Monterey County. Located in the newly designated San Antonio Valley AVA, an area with a bourgeoning reputation for producing intensely flavored, complex wines of the sort more often associated with Paso Robles than with Monterey, we are one of a number of new producers that are helping to demonstrate the particular virtues of our unique region.
Our plantings consist of a somewhat eclectic mix of Bordeaux, Rhone, and Iberian varietals that have been selected not only for their ability to excel in our climate, but also for their complementary qualities. Our region is perfectly suited to producing superb Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah and Zinfandel, where the warmer growing environment allows them to achieve the full richness and complexity of which they are capable. We are also particularly interested in Spanish and Portuguese varietals such as Tempranillo and Touriga Nacional and are eager to explore their potential. In general, our intention is to produce approachable yet substantive wines that provide robust, elegant expressions not only of the individual varietals but of the region as well. Ultimately, it is our aim to create wines that make a true contribution to the landscape of viticulture and winemaking in Monterey County.
